Daniel grew up in North Dakota, and studied Music Theory and Composition at North Dakota State University, and did graduate studies in Choral Conducting at the University of North Dakota. Over the years he’s served in Lutheran, United Methodist, Episcopal, and United Church of Christ congregations. He has composed music for worship and choirs, and has choral pieces published by Augsburg Fortress, and Pavane/Hal Leonard. He was commissioned by Lake Nokomis Lutheran to compose a liturgy inspired by his communion song, “Come to the Table.” Daniel currently works as Communications Manager at Roseville Lutheran Church, a position he held previously at Hennepin Avenue UMC. For over 10 years, Daniel has been involved as a singer locally with the groups CorVoce and InVocation.
Daniel and his husband, the Rev. Dennis Sanders, live in North Minneapolis and share their home with some pretty awesome cats. Dennis’ mother moved to the Cities recently and they’re glad to have her close by. As Uncles to 3 nephews and one niece, Daniel and Dennis are involved with many of the spectacular things they are doing in North Dakota. They both have interests in things automotive, Dennis especially, as his parents worked for General Motors in Flint, MI. They have enjoyed traveling over the years, including going to Dennis’ ancestral home of Puerto Rico. Daniel dreams of someday designing and building a small(er) home, so don’t be surprised to see sketches and architectural drawings on occasion! Daniel and Dennis are advocates for understanding autism/Aspergers, dyslexia, racial justice, and mental health.
